My family is thinking about hosting a foreign exchange student and, looking through the profiles of the students still available, my sister and I don’t have a lot in common with the girls left. The one that we have the most in common with is Lutheran while my family is atheist. We have absolutely no problem with different religions and different cultures, however would it be difficult for the girl to get along in an environment without so much religion?
She is from Norway, if that helps to answer the question… I’ve heard that people from different countries differ on how they view their religions.
Thank you!
Haha, I guess I kind of stated the question wrong…
We don’t intend to convert her to Atheism or anything like that, we will respect whatever she chooses to believe. I’m just curious if she would have problems living with a family of Atheists or if it would be easier for her to find another family.

On Saturday, two Japanese teenagers(foreign exchange students according to my church) are going to stay with my family and myself for 3 days. They can speak only a little English and my mom, brother, and I can speak a little Japanese. We’ve done this program for five years in a row and sometimes there’s been some moments where I didn’t want to offend them or make things awkward. So any tips on manners when you have foreign guests?

I’m in a long distance relationship with an exchange student I met. She is a smart, pretty girl. I don’t feel like I’m a slouch either, I am going to be a professional, I take care of myself and think I am a nice, supportive, fairly romantic boyfriend.
The problem I have is I feel I am putting more into the relationship. I always am the one who arranges for us to talk (huge time difference.) I also often go out of my way to make things easier for her but she never does.
When I brought this up to her, she said I’m keeping score. I just feel it’s unfair and that I could be in a different relationship is a lot less work and more rewarding but don’t want to break her heart.
Any suggestions, please?
Hey Texas Girl, thanks for the advice. That’s pretty much the conclusion I came to. Admittedly, I do have trouble just playing it cool and not talking for a while given the long distance nature of our relationship and the fact it goes agaist my type A personality
Also when I have brought it up she says relationships are selfless and I should keep score. This is tricky because it turns the whole thing around on me, and also really annoys me.
Any suggestions how to answer this?

There’s this guy i have class with and he’s flirtatious and very upbeat, party guy. i’ve not known him too long, almost a month i guess. Anyway, he does all these things that make me think he has an interest in me, such as taking my phone and pulling out the number so he could text me later, touching and poking, singin me love songs in class (which could be for the fun of it) etc etc. But he doesnt invite me anywhere or grab opportunities to spend time with me. Even when he texts me, he doesn’t say much. Like today, at the end of class I said that I was gonna sit outside in the sun for awhile because it felt so nice today, and he said he would also but when we get out there, he’s like half walking away, half-not. i dont know. i asked if he was leaving and he said “hell yeah im not stayin this shithole!” in a joking manner. and then ever so slowly walked to his car. or when i say theres nothing to do today, and im aware he has plans, he doesn’t even give suggestions.
so is he just a flirtatious person and not interested?
he calls me persian princess, for some odd reason. he was learning chinese words from these foreign kids and he said Ur Poi Lung n i was like wha n i asked the chinese kids n he said dont tell her, but it meant ‘beautiful’ as i found out later. n i was like hmm but the next day he said he called a girl poi lung at work n she thought he was insulting her lol we dont hang out after class, hes only said once “i HAVE to make sure u get wasted before the end of the quarter” since i said i barely drink. hes so outgoing and friendly to people so maybe, i thought, hes jus like this often. i cant compare to other girls, the other girls in class are exchange students. he doesnt talk to them much. i dont even know i we’ll keep contact after this quarter. he likes touching n poking me, writing stuff on my arm, using my lotion, etc. but sometimes he doesnt even show up to class. i wud text him to ask if he was gonna show up n he would say maybe. like next week he said he wasnt gonna come at all. today i was feelin shitty n he was purposely tryna make me laugh n said “see, i can make you smile even when ur havin a bad day” and patted me on the back. he said lifes too short, no time to be sad.
im gonna guess hes jus a good person, and very optimistic/cheery guy since hes not advancing on me. what do you think?

What should I expect with a korean exchange student?
my school is very small and we have had about 6 Koreans join us there. I have only been close to two of them. and the one wasn’t there long.
Even though they have been in my school for several years, I haven’t become friends with them until recently. considering this, i dont know much about them!!!
I am an only child and this is my family’s first time having some one new in the house. Our exchange student is arriving next week. Im a little nervous and i dont know what to expect.
She is 2 or so years younger than me.
any advice?

My family is thinking about hosting a foreign exchange student and I’ve got some questions…
First of all, does the exchange student head home for winter vacation?
Second of all, what did you do about family vacations, did the foreign exchange student go too?
Thanks!
