Open Question: How to deal with an annoying family member?

Nov 30, 2009 @ 04:09 pm by

Okay, I’ve got a problem here. I have a cousin that’s just SO ANNOYING. I only see her on Holidays, when I see all my family, but once she sees me, she starts talking and JUST NEVER SHUTS UP. I understand if she missed me and wanted to talk, but jeez! She won’t give me the chance to talk to anyone else. I keep wanting to get to talk with my half cousin, whom I used to be close with but not anymore, but before I can the annoying cousin comes up to me. And once she starts, she don’t stop talking until she leaves. I wouldn’t mind as much IF we actually had something in common. I mean, I can’t even respond to half the stuff she says because I’ve no clue about it. Now, as if that’s not enough by itself, she actually transferred to my school just to be closer to me. More so, she’s trying to match her schedule to mine so we’d have the same classes. (Not really possible because I’m in the top 3 of all my classes, which are acc classes, while she’s in Sp Ed) I’m not trying to be mean, but she’s worse than a kid sibling. I’m in High School and have had a hard enough time fitting in with my friends and girlfriend, if I am being chased around by her, it would make me look even more out of place. I’m real physically frail, so not many people will be around mme. She’s mentally ill, which is sad, but I just can’t stay with her long. I can’t explain it. But think of it like, a foreign exchange student comes along and start acting like you and them have known each other for life, when you have not a thing in common. All I have in common with this cousin is family. That’s it. We’re practically from different planets.

If we weren’t cousins, I’d swear she has a thing for me. And the hardest part is, I’m a real nice person and can’t say no to someone unless I’m outraged. And if that’s the case, it comes out in a HORRIBLE way. I just wish she’d stop clinging to me like we’re best friends. Again, I’m not being mean, we just have nothing in common, so talking is extremely difficult. I’m almost at the point where I want to spend the Holidays at my Friends’ houses instead so I can get away from her without hurting her feelings. I think my heart is a gift AND a curse in this case.
Okay, those of you saying stuff that’s rude, KNOCK IT OFF! I’m just trying to nicely get away from her so I can be with other people. But I’m not sure how to without looking mean.

Resolved Question: I need some ideas for Christmas gifts!?

Nov 30, 2009 @ 02:20 pm by

We are hosting a foreign exchange student this year, she will arrive the day after Christmas. I am trying to decide what we should get for her for Christmas. I have asked her if she wanted anything, and I think that she is too modest to ask for anything. So, we are thinking that we will try to get things for her to help her understand our culture, (since that is what she is here to do anyway)…

So, does anyone have any suggestions on what would be good gifts for her?
Basically American Culture… I know what things I can get her for my specific culture, but I want ideas for American Culture in general….
Also, we are taking her different places, so we already have that planned… I just need ideas of things to wrap and give her for Christmas…

Open Question: How can a UK citizen get into a USA university/college?

Nov 30, 2009 @ 11:01 am by

Basically i’m 21 and have no GCSE’s as i was home schooled so i know i’ll have to do some sort of starter course first to get the kind of qualifications i need to get to uni. I’m going to speak to an advisor at Preston UCLAN this week anyway, but my main goal is to get over to the states and i’m just wondering if there’s any sort of student exchange program or something? Incidentally i’m hoping to study Law leading to be a solicitor - Or a lawyer as the yankee’s will say! ;)

Open Question: Do you know some chinese?

Nov 30, 2009 @ 08:51 am by

For my ICT coursework, we have to create a leaflet containing useful phrases for our exchange students (we had to organise a fake trip) and my fake students are from China, so could you tell me some useful phrases? It would be better if you actually spoke Chinese, as translaters don’t get it right all the time… Thankyou!!
I need about 5 or 6 phrases, thankyou :)

Open Question: Am I loosing out on a Great overseas experience?

Nov 30, 2009 @ 06:52 am by

I am an exchange student living in Brazil, i have been here for abouut 6 months already.
I left 4 months after I turned 16 to complete an exchange that would be my Junior year in the US.
I am having a good time here learning about myself and i can already speak the language very well. I feel like after 9 months I will have had enough of an experience to go home and not stay until my 12 months is up. Will i be loosing out to go home a bit early? If i go home i will be enrolling in SAT prep and spending my time that way.
