Open Question: Is this a good reason to break up?

Dec 31, 2009 @ 11:39 am by

So my girlfriend and i have been going out for 2 months. we have broken up once already but we got back together shortly. 2 days ago she was telling me about this exchange student who liked her. He hits on her all the time and he makes sexual suggestions to her all the time. This kid has a reputation for getting in girls pants and doing everything he can to get there. Earlier this year he got in alot of trouble because he tried to rape a girl.

Yesterday, she told me she was hanging out with him. She didnt text me back for 4 hours and then she said sorry i was busy… and i said what does that mean. She replied Excuse me? And i asked her if they had done anything. She got really really mad. we got in a huge fight. I told her that i trusted her but not the guy and that i know she wouldnt do anything like that but he will stop at nothing to get it. She broke up with me but we are still fighting and she said she wants to give me another chance to but is afraid.

Is this a good reason for her to break up with me? and is it a good sign that she still is fighting with me? I really really like this girl and she knows it. I just dont understand what was wrong with worrying about her.

Voting Question: How long does it take to learn a language pretty fluently through immersion?

Dec 31, 2009 @ 01:36 am by

Immersion as in being an exchange student/living with a host family.
I want to learn French. I was thinking of spending 6 weeks or so in an exchange program in eastern Canada.

And just speaking/conversation, not much reading or writing.

Open Question: Study Abroad Grants/Scholarships For A High School Student?

Dec 30, 2009 @ 02:47 pm by

I am currently a junior in high school. For my senior year I am trying to participate in a foreign exchange program with OGSHS (Osaka Girls Senior High School) in Japan. The program is relatively cheap, and because it is cheaper than most (such as Rotary or AFS ect.) they are unable to provide financial assistance at this time. The program will cost me around 11,300 Dollars for one year. I have a job and am trying to save up as much money as I can, however I have daily expenses which eat up most of that small income. I have been searching and trying to find scholarships, grants, and sponsorships for months now, and I’ve gotten no where. This is very important to me, and I need help finding a way to make this happen. I’ve searched for scholarships for international students or studying abroad. Yet the only information I find is for College students wishing to study abroad. If anyone has a solution or advice as to how I can find funding, please share.

Open Question: Where should I transfer to in Europe from US college? What should I do?

Dec 30, 2009 @ 07:26 am by

Hi guys,

currently, I’m a freshman in Mercyhurst College - small private catholic school located in Erie, PA, United States. My major is Business with concentration in finance, minor economics and accounting (2 minors).

A year go I was an exchange student in the same city, I attended a local high school and graduated from there. I always wanted to go to American college so I decided to come back and keep studying there. I kinda like my school, its a nice place to be, I also like my classes and professors. However, my parents are paying A LOT of money in compare with cost of schools in my country so I started thinking - is it really worth it? Oh I forgot to tell you, Im from Slovakia, a little country in so-called estern Europe. My country is a part of European union, so I would not need any visa to study in European union. Next thing that sucks about studying in US is that I get to go home just one or at the best two times a year. After a year in states, I thought Im gonna be able to make it, but now I know Im not.

So, I would like to transfer to some nice European college/university, where they teach in english (it does not have to be neccessarily english - speaking country) so I could be closer from home and it would be also cheaper than it cost me to study in states (with plane tickets, its like $15,000 a year, even after I got a pretty big schollarship). But Im kinda lost. I dont know what schools should I be looking at, how much does it cost to study in Europe and stuff.

My question is, should I transfer and come back to Europe? What would you do? Could you guys recommend me some schools I can contact? I would greatly appreciate your advices and tips.

Thank you!
Peter
