I am an exchange student to the US. I don’t know much about the American culture. My roommate gets up early. He enters and exits the room very frequently, about 6 times in half an hour. The handle of door cannot be rotated from outside. My roommate just lets the door close by itself, which makes a big noise to me. I am awakened in this way almost every morning. When I come back to dorm very late, I always keep a small gap at the edge of door, keeping it not completely closed. Thus I can enter or exit the room with no sound. Is my behavior appropriate in the American culture ? Is it common that people shut the door of a dorm loudly ? If so, I will try to get used to it. If not, can you tell me how to say it to my roommate? I am shy.
I just keep a gap when going out to wash my hands or brush my teeth. I will definitely close the door when I’m ready to go to bed. I rotate the handle finally to close it quietly.

There is a girl I have been dating for 5 months now. She is an exchange student that goes to our school. She likes me alot and I like her ALOT. There is about 4 moths left till school is done and she has to go back. We just started to get into the physical part of the relationship, and things are really going good. But she is scared that she will get her heart broken when she leaves. Any tips, should we break up now. Because i don’t want to. Give me some good reasons why we should stay together.

When being an exchange student what do you expect to get out of the trip?
How can you use what you learned in the community when you come back?
what qualities do exchange students expect to posses?
What are some experiences that could make someone a better candidate for an exchange program?

im a freshman in undergrad and the first semester of my junior year i would like to do an exchange program in the UK. my school has programs with University of Bristol, University of Birmingham, and University of Essex. I want to be a journalist and perhaps go to Columbia University for their graduate journalism program. Which of these UK universities would be great to study journalism or are there any of UK universities that have great journalism programs for undergrad students.

I’m 15 and want to become an foreign exchange student for the summer of June - August 2011. Is it to late for me to do it? Will i be able to get a scholarship to cover most of the costs?
And i will have braces when/if i go to my other country, I have to go to the orthodontist once a month. Would I be able to go for 3 monthes due to this?
Will it be hard to learn how to speak a different language in 3 months?
Sorry I’m asking alot. I just have alot of unanswered questions. (:
