I’m planing on going to Sogang University for 1 semester for student exchange program at my university here in the US. Have anyone go there for study abroad? How’s the students life there? How’s their programs? I already research about Sogang so dont give me general answers such as facts about the university. I want to hear from your point of view and opinions about your experience there.

Open Question: could you please translate this to french for me? thanks!?

the rest of my “student letter to host family” (i’ve posted the other half as another question) i’m going to france next year as an exchange student(yay!) and i don’t speak french yet. thanks everybody!

Well, as you can see, after seventeen years of living very comfortably indeed with my parents, I have now decided that it is time for me to learn to stand on my own feet, take responsibility and get used to living on my own. I’ve realized that there’s just too much going on in the world i know nothing of to stay indifferent, so, i’m taking this first step to see what else there is.

Last summer, i went to paris on my own and stayed with a host family, taking French classes every day for more than a month. since it was my first real experience of being free and all alone, wandering around the streets of paris, intending to get lost in order to discover something amazing, going to places that people from the books i’ve read went, buying really old books from the riverside booksellers, then sitting down on the ground next to seine trying to understand the books,France will always have a very , very special place in my heart. That’s part of why i want to go back there. it’s a truly magical place to me.

i’m eventually going to have to stop writing about how much i love paris and i guess this is the part of the letter where i tell you about my personality. i’m actually a very social person, i make friends easily. I’m so excited about having some French friends for life! I’m very creative too, i write and direct plays for school, star in most and prepare the costumes. Whenever there’s a project requiring teamwork, my team always gets the highest marks, i’m just full of ideas. I’m currently working on a novel, too.

To sum it all up, i’m just incredibly excited about my exchange year in France. Once again, thank you for accepting me as a member of your family.

Looking forward to meeting you.

i know it’s cheesy but that’s the best i could come up with. sorry if the english isn’t good enough.
thanks a lot if you’ll translate.

Open Question: Calling park rangers, ranchers types. Queries Out door job training certification QUeensland?

Apr 30, 2010 @ 08:14 am by

I have a list of questions, thanks guys:

1. What sort of common out-door jobs are there that you can make a career out of?
(Specifically, I am thinking something on-land, outside, not in the city, and something which can feed yourself decently with a pension. Something involving a lot of sunshine and walking about.)

e.g.? What the heck is a forestor? What is a park ranger? How are they trained? Where?

2. Where does one get certified or qualified for out-door jobs? Is there a university or a vocational school?

3. Regarding certification. Is there the same amount of class politics and “IVy-League” posturing you get with university education? Or are skills simply skills? Doesn’t matter where you get your certificate sort of thing?

[i ask because with universities there is a lot of class-politics and competition over which school you get into and how a student from school may be better than another]

4. How long does it take to become certified in an outdoor job?

5. how much does “outdoor vocation” training typically cost?

A little about me:

I’m majoring in economics and political science, I’ve worked in Beijing, London, Singapore and Malaysia in offices doing intern work; calculations and surveys. I hate being stuck in an office all the time or a lecture hall with artificial 5 degree celcius air-conditioning, and i am begining to have second thoughts about my major. And I do not see myself going straight into corporate life.

I’ve spent 2 years in the army as an infantryman and also a logistics specialist (delivering food./water). I’ve worked on dive boats before; filling air cylinders in exchange for free dives. Also taught surfing.. Picking apples etc that sort of thing. But i dont consider those jobs “career” jobs coz i dont think one can live picking apples in the long run.. But i feel i need to do much more.

Open Question: could you please help me translate this to french?

it’s a “letter to host family” i’m going to france next year and well, i don’t speak french yet. thank you for helping! here’s the letter:

Dear future host family,

hi! first of all, i would like to thank you for planning to include me in your family as an exchange student.

my name is —————- and i’m seventeen. i live in ———— with my family and i’m a senior at ——— high school.

i have always been interested in learning new languages, it is something i really enjoy. it enables me to speak to people whose lives, history, values differ from mine, and it is always fascinating to see how we’re all the same, anyway. I beleive that if enough people learn to understand each other, the world will be a much better place. There’s also the fact that speaking french really good will make me pretty cool :D
well, let me tell you a bit about myself, then.I have a wonderful family I love, they’re great.my parents would do anything to make sure me and my brother get the best education possible. They’re always very supportive, encouraging us to chase our dreams. they’re both professors in different univetsities’ medical departments.my brother is 10 and just adorable. they’re all really fun, we love spending time together.

i’ll ask the other half as another question so that you won’t get bored and more people can get 10 points. thanks again.

Open Question: What’s the difference between “feministic” and “feministical”?

Apr 30, 2010 @ 07:40 am by

In a Lorrie Moore story I’m reading, a student says to a teacher, “You seem very feministic” and the teacher responds, “You mean, ‘feministical’.” What does exchange mean?

Open Question: Shirt size differences from Germany to the USA?

Apr 30, 2010 @ 06:47 am by

I am going to Germany this summer on a foreign exchange. I want to get my host family shirts from my hometown here. My host student says she wears a size L in girl shirts and a M in mens and her sister is a XL/XXL in girls and a L in mens. Do the sizes change? Like what size would they both be here in America? Please tell me the sizes for both girls and both mens shirts and girl shirts if you know. Thanks
