Resolved Question: FELLOW AUSSIES: This is my current plan … I want to be a director/screenwriter?

Jun 30, 2010 @ 10:30 am by

This is my current plan (btw, i am a 17 year old year 12 student in Brisbane Australia):

- For the rest of this year, attend film festivals, watch movies, learn about directing/filmmaking more and more, and develop some skills in screenwriting
- Take a gap year next year, because of how exhausting grade 12 is (I am aiming to get dux of the school this year … last year I was 5th in the grade, out of 130 students)
- Beginning of next year, apply for jobs (any jobs!) at local film studios … there I will learn about things like lighting/editing (things vital to being a director :D) through work-experience
- Second half of next year I am going to France for 3 months to teach english and learn french (with a local exchange program) … there I should develop an ‘adult’ lifestyle/attitude, and learn how to write fantastic stories/scripts through my own experiences :D - All this gap year, make short films, and apply them to film festivals (still visiting film festivals, obviously)
- After that, do either a Bachelor of Film and TV Studies or a Bachelor of Multimedia Design (leave my options open as a graphic designer/advertiser :D)
- Make connections with aspiring directors/screenwriters/actors etc at uni … as well as connections through the uni … and develop my own movies/portfolio
- Keep making movies/connections, and applying my oh-so-brilliant films to independant film festivals

Hopefully, I will get noticed. Does this sound reasonable? Will I become a recognised (not necessarily famous) director this way? What else should I do???
THANK YOU!!
x

P.S. Is there any way to learn how to be a script writer?? Also, could you suggest any great unis to go to?? Preferably in Australia, but I do have an EU Citizenship … so that is another option :)

Open Question: What do you think is the truest stereotype from this list?

Jun 30, 2010 @ 09:41 am by

Americans are rednecks and dumb asses

Asians have little d****

Kiwis are strange

Brazilians are little b*tches

British people all act like the Queen

Australians are bogans

Canadians are douchebags

Russians are wackos that still believe in Communism

Irish people are drunks

French people are gay

Ok in my opinion half of these stereotypes only fit not even half of the nations people.

Americans - I know for fact that not all Americans are like that, my mums friend has an American exchange student and she is really smart and nice.

Brazilians - Lol I have no idea where this came from, alot of Brazilians are tough SOB’s

British - No lol, I know a few British people that have an accent but are no way close to being posh.

Australians - Haha, this is partly true. Im Australian myself, and most of the people are not even close to fitting this. We do have some, and obviously that’s enough to spark a stereotype.

Canadians - I’ve never met a Canadian. So I have no idea.

Russians - No lol, I know a fully Russian kid who said it was peaceful and nice where he lived.

Irishmen - I believe that this only fits some.

French people are gay - No… French is the language of love and making love

Kiwis - I’ve been to New Zealand. Most people arn’t but I did meet a couple of strange people…

I believe the truest stereotype is Asians have little d****. I have an Asian friend, and my other friend saw his dick by mistake. He said it was tiny. Not only that, i’ve seen porno’s with Asian guys in it and their wee-wee’s are tiny.

What’s your opinion?

Open Question: Mononucleosis — can’t sleep?

Jun 30, 2010 @ 06:53 am by

Hey everyone.
Yeah i’m one of those guys suffering from this terrible disease too.

Before you answer: sorry this question is long. But this really really really matters a lot to me. And whoever helps me out here would be soo soo soo much appreciated by me, it means a lot a lot a lot to me!

So I’m going to explain my situation - please read everything, i really need to know this..

So 1 month ago i’ve been to the doctor a lot not knowing what I had, finally diagnosed after 2 times blood taken off I have mononucleosis — first time it didn’t work because it was in a too early stage. The fever lasted for about 2 weeks now i don’t have any fever anymore, the fever was around 38-39°C. During those 2 weeks I was able to rest on my bed and fall asleep. And sleep like normal. But now I cannot anymore. When I try to sleep it just doesn’t work. I just can’t fall asleep, it’s like my body is so terribly tired and wants to sleep but my mind is still thinking about a lot of things and I can’t turn it to sleep xP. I had told this to my doctor too, 2 weeks ago and she said it might be because I didn’t do the school exams (though the school just made me pass to next year because my marks are great, i’m one of the best students). Now even i know i don’t have to do the exams and that everybody finished their exams I still cannot sleep. When I try to fall asleep (i go to bed at around 22:00) and I fall asleep at 2-3 am and wake up at 9-10am. I want to sleep!! But it just doesn’t work. Oh and the doctor had given me a prescription for a thing to make you sleep which is made from natural things but my parents didn’t buy it because it was expensive and they thought it was so important — but if you think this is good I’ll let them buy it xP I thought myself it wasn’t so important at that time.

Now the tricky thing– my girlfriend is an exchange student and leaving in 10 days; I don’t think this is why I can’t sleep though. Of course it made me cry a few times but in the end i just think like we’ll see each other after a few months again even if we have to pay for a flight ticket, i don’t care! =) (Though the only thing which annoys me is i had to cancel going to the sea with her and i cannot kiss her goodbye!!)

Any idea?

1) why i can’t sleep & should I take those natural sleeping things?

2) And sometimes i feel like my eyes hurt a lot because they’re tired but I feel like my body is full of energy?

3) And like some people say they fall asleep while eating!? I’ve never had this but I can’t concentrate on things like usually.

4) And: I’m scared that because I can’t sleep good i would get the chronic thing?? Is resting as good as sleeping?? How big is the change I get the chronic fatigue thing? This thing really scares me.

5)It isn’t possible to estimate through your blood how much time i will still have this? I have my contract for my students job in august and I signed it before I was sick.. But yeah since I’m 17 my parents can still cancel it. But I really need the money.. As you know, for my girlfriend.. So I’m sure she has enough money to come back or I would give her the money I got from my students’ job.

Open Question: Working student in Paris for a year?

Jun 30, 2010 @ 06:22 am by

I’m currently contemplating living abroad in Paris for one year before I go to university (starting as of September 2011). I’m wondering how expensive living costs are and the chances of finding a job for a 18-year old English student in the city.
I speak French fluently, participated in countless exchanges so think I’m (fairly) accustomed to the French way of living and am more happy than to integrate with the culture, I’m extremely aware of not coming across as arrogant or stubborn as an English speaker, if that makes any sense.
Thank you :)

Open Question: If the tenant raise the price, is it possible to sign a lease of 4 months?

Jun 30, 2010 @ 05:54 am by

I’m a UWA exchange student and I need an appartment near the Uni for 4 months but most of their lease need to be more than 6 months.
I think its really a waste and if I’m leaving early, can I get back the deposit???
If I mark up 20%-30%, do you think the owner will be willing to rent?
If you have any more tips to persuade the owner, could you please tell me?
