Open Question: Extending Long Stay Student Visa in France?

Jul 31, 2010 @ 06:03 pm by

I will be going to France August 26th for a year long exchange. The program has told me i must stay for 11-12 months, however my visa is only for 11! Students to other countries all have 12 month visa’s and mine is for 11. I would like to stay for the 12 months, especially because there is a huge festival in my future city at the end of July that i don’t want to miss. I will turn 18 this december, and i was wondering if there is any way i can extend my visa for 1 month?

Open Question: Best US Town to be an exchange student. Help?

Jul 31, 2010 @ 01:55 pm by

I’m a 16 yr girl and I’m considering to take part in a foreign exchange program in the US in 2 years time. Can anyone tell me which part of the country should I chose to study in? Also taking in mind how friendly and open-minded people are. If you can list some schools with swimming teams would be an ENOURMOUS help. Thank you :)

Open Question: How can I earn the money to go to Spain for a trimester?

Jul 31, 2010 @ 01:16 pm by

Is this possible to achieve without earning all the money (I can’t earn $9,000 from my job in less than 4 months) to go to Spain next spring. I was recently informed that asking for donations is illegal, but I’m confused why nearly every single foreign exchange program insists on asking for donations from businesses and such. I’m incredibly confused, can anybody help? Are all of those “success stories” just lies so that you will apply and then not be able to get all of your money back? Is that scamming kids out of their money cause it seems like that to me…

And if anybody can point me in the direction of some foreign exchange scholarships for high school students, I would owe you so much! Can I even apply for scholarships through programs other than the program that I am going with? (AYUSA)

Anybody’s advice on student loans for this type of thing? Can I even get them if I’m not 18 yet/don’t have my parent’s approval?

I am desperate to go abroad and I will do anything to go.

Open Question: Broken business contract:Lost 30k from scam artist..Is threatening to go to the FBI+States Attorney Blackmail?

Jul 31, 2010 @ 09:23 am by

OK So here is the scoop: I had a business contract with a guy that was broken by him and it cost me $20k (I had handed my online business which made $30k a year to him under contract to manage it in exchange for a portion of the profit)…after this I did some investigating and found out he had scammed others to the tune of $40k+ over the years… for example people paid him to make a website and he took their money and never made the site and never refunded their money…among other scams he has committed….

Here’s my question is it blackmail or extortion for me to threaten to contact the FBI and States Attorney about this if I give him a chance to resolve or settle this matter and he doesnt?

In my mind what he did was fraud and there are other cases of it to back this up these scams have been committed with residents of multiple states…Any Lawyers or Law Students care to offer an advice aside from “get a lawyer”?

Thanks
Here is an example of something similar to what I might send him..is this blackmail or extortion?

Dear Sir,

It has become apparent to me that you think this is a game you can get away with and that you can continue to defraud people and get away with it.

I have documented over $XX,XXX in Fraud committed by you where you took a person’s money or business (in my case) and received nothing or very little at all in reimbursement back from this.

From my investigation of your business doings this would be easily proven in court that these were fraud and not “my dog ate my homework” or “I’m having marriage problems” or any other lame excuse you come up with to justify screwing people out of their money.

This is a criminal offense and you could get serious jail time for it. You are playing with fire my friend. (Continued next post)
Your actions have infuriated me to the point that there is no backing off now and you know if I can hold on to this tenaciously for 10 months so far that I can hold on+keep going for another 3 years on the principle that by principal I can’t stand dishonest people. You are stirring up a storm and you will not like the end result. I am not scared of you and I know your fear tactics you play on people.

You screw them and then threaten them with legal action if they say anything to others (exercising their 1st amendment rights) about how you screwed them to warn others. This scares others but I see how this entire plot of yours is constructed+what feeds it and what starves it.

This is your final opportunity to settle this matter+make things right as well as make things right with (another persons name) since your screwing him around is about to get him kicked out of his place, yet you think screwing up people’s lives is just a game or a “business plan of action”. (Continued Next)
Should a settlement be not be reached with myself AND (another persons name) not be paid by the end of the day on August 1st I will be going to the authorities on this matter (Your Sheriff, Your States Attorney, and the FBI). And I have done very thorough investigating on you my friend; I know all your other businesses, your websites, your accounts at different places and most every other aspect of your business, the contact information of people you have screwed…among other things.
This is your last chance to make things right. Be warned….If you balk at this you are going to have a maelstrom of problems ahead of you.

(End of Letter)

Open Question: How quickly can an english speaker learn german?

Jul 31, 2010 @ 09:01 am by

So I’m going on a student exchange next year and I’m just weighing up my options (:

I’m Australian and speak enlglish and some mandarin, but I’m not too keen to visit china for obvious reasons.

If I was to start learning SOME german now, would I have an “adequate” level for september next year? Just curious, I’d be there for 3 months and i’d be 16

Open Question: I had a contract w/ a person that was broken…Is it blackmail or extortion to threaten to contact the FBI?

Jul 31, 2010 @ 07:53 am by

OK So here’s the deal, I had a business contract with a guy that was broken and it cost me $30k (I had handed my online business which made $40k a year to him under contract to manage it in exchange for a portion of the profit)…after this I investigated him and found out he had scammed others to the tune of $50k+ over the years….like a handful of folks paid him to make a website for him and he took their money and never made the site and never refunded their money…among other scams he has done…

Here’s my question is it blackmail or extortion for me to threaten to contact the FBI about this if I give him a chance to resolve or settle this matter and he doesnt?

In my mind what he did was fraud and there are other cases of it to back this up…Any Lawyers or Law Students care to offer an advice aside from “get a lawyer”?

Considering all of the others he has scammed are in multiple different states wouldnt the FBI be the one to contact?

Open Question: How do I talk to my parents about being an exchange student?

Jul 31, 2010 @ 02:59 am by

Okay so my parents know I want to go to Japan and my mother is willing to talk about it but my father wont! They both say it is a possibility. I want to leave when I turn 15 (or around that time) which is in like 14 months. My father barley says anything and I need to know how to get the answer so I can seriously begin to plan the trip! My father doesn’t understand that I need to fill out and application and such MONTHS in advance. How can I tell him this so I can plan?

Open Question: How do you get a study visa for Japan?

Jul 30, 2010 @ 09:59 pm by

I’m trying to be a foreign exchange student in Japan, and I want to go over there for a semester and it requires me to have a study visa. Where do I get one or apply for one? I currently live in Philadelphia, PA. Do I have to go far? How much money will it cost?

Open Question: Why am I still interested in this shallow girl?

Jul 30, 2010 @ 08:22 pm by

I work with a very attractive european exchange student. I usually don’t even go for these types of girls, most of the very pretty (by societies’ standards) women I have met have very ugly personalities, but once I got to know I found out she was a very nice person and treated me much nicer than any other ‘hot’ girl I have ever met. So I asked her out and got rejected. She has talked to me about what she likes in a man and I have come to find that she is very shallow and has very high standards. For her a guy has to:

1) Wear fancy clothes all the time
2) Be very muscular and fit
3) Shave armpits and chest (I think this is kind of weird, who wants to date a guy who looks like a little boy)
4) There are other things but these 3 stick out in my mind.

She has only ever seen me in a suit once. I could stand to lose about 20 lbs. and I DO NOT shave my chest or armpits. I guess she keeps guys like me around for when she needs something.

She would never say this to me but she probably thinks I am very ugly even though she says she considers me one of her best friends (I have helped her with many of the obstacles in settling into life in the US). She has asked me before on my opinions of how women look and she thinks I have a strange view because I find a very broad spectrum of women attractive. I have told her that i thought she was beautiful. I cannot even believe I still want to be with a girl who thinks like this. I have always gone for the average or ‘plain’ (beautiful to me) looking girls because they are sweet and down to earth (not always true, just a generalization). Now I am attracted to this girl who seems to only be interested in looks and social status. She really is a nice and sweet person, she is just very shallow when it comes to picking men (she has had some bad boyfriends as a result).
