Open Question: German/American Differences?

Aug 31, 2010 @ 11:06 pm by

A German exchange student is attending our college this year and I would like to know from Germans who live in America or from Americans who have hosted German students, ideas of things to show her. Tomorrow I am teaching her about licorice (salmiak), because they don’t use that word in Germany. I am thinking I will take her to a zoo, but I would like some other ideas of where to take her, she will be here for a year so she will see Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and such.

Open Question: gap year?????????????

Aug 31, 2010 @ 10:02 pm by

I’m a high school senior considering taking a gap year to travel someplace (in an exchange program or something like that). How expensive is it? (like thousands or less) What are your experiences or experiences that you’ve heard of from taking a year off traveling? What programs give students a chance to study abroad? and etc….

I know colleges recommend it and thats why i’m interested.

Open Question: German native speakers…?

Aug 31, 2010 @ 07:41 pm by

I made a new friend, she is an exchange student from Switzerland and speaks fluent German. She has been here in the US for a week and knows english quite well and only took one class of it. Anyways, how do you say the following things in German:
What do you miss the most from Switzerland?
Were you shy or outgoing back in Switzerland?
Do you have a lot of friends back in Switzerland?
If you don’t understand something I said tell me so I can explain.

Thanksss :))))

Open Question: How should I approach an exchange student?

Aug 31, 2010 @ 06:55 pm by

So in my Mississippi Studies class, there’s an exchange student from Germany. I’ve been assigned to help her out because she speaks only so much English and when she does speak English, it’s a bit difficult for anyone to understand her. She’s a bit shy but when you talk to her she’s really nice but how should I help her get around?

P.S. I was born in Germany myself and speak the language.

Resolved Question: Do you talk to the foreign exchange students at your school?

Open Question: How am I supposed to talk to a foreign exchange student at school, if she doesnt speak english very well?

Aug 31, 2010 @ 06:12 pm by

School just started. And theres a new girl, whos a foreign exchange student from Belgium. I feel so bad for her, because she doesnt have many friends. But she seems so sweet, and nice. I want to talk to her so bad, and introduce myself. But I’m afraid i’ll look like a fool. Cause she doesnt speak english very well. Can someone help me? And tell me how I might be able to understand/speak to her? Please! And please, only serious answers. I’m serious about this whole thing… I really want to meet her, and become her friend.
