Being an exchange student really interests me, so I want to find out more about it. What are some websites I can use to find more information on it? Okay, so I got this Italian girl’s PIN from a friend of mine, and I really want to form a strong friendship with her. I’m going to be an exchange student to Italy in a years time so she’ll be able to help me with many things, like learning the language. Also, I’m going to the city where she lives, Cosenza, and it’ll be nice to know one person at least. Anyway, I got her PIN like two weeks ago, and we haven’t spoken much. You see, I’m like Raj from the Big Bang Theory: I’m not at all great at speaking with girls, even over instant messaging. I’ve been told that I’m quite charming when I’m comfortable with someone, so I basically just need help reaching that stage. How do I start a random conversation with her over BBM? How do I talk to her? She’s speaks English very well, and I’ve already tried using my basic italian knowledge on her (E.g. Starting a convo by saying, “Ciao, come stai?” etc) I don’t know how to speak to her now without coming across as a weirdo. Like I said, I haven’t spoken to her in weeks. We spoke fine for like the first hour but then I just crashed… The conversation died and was never resurrected. HELP?

Open Question: Should I cheat to make things fair?

I mean I took a class with a hard professor and even if I work hard he gave a very difficult problem and I got a C in the first exam (the rest of the class failed). In the second exam I thought I would get a 100% but I made a mistake and got a 92%.

The thing is that I needed to get 100% and 100% in the final to get an A in the class.

Now if I get 100% in the final my grade will get to 88% and the professor will not give me an A. He only helps students who fail. He doesn’t give any help from B to A.

In the second exam, some students have access to the key and they just copied it. The graduate student in charge of administering the exam never did anything to stop the cheating. They had the key and they consulted during the exam. In the first exam most students failed but they also consulted and exchanged answers.

If someone has practiced and worked in that class it is me. Now I’m very upset because no matter how hard I work I will only get a B. If I had cheated I wouldn’t be in this situation… becuase after all who cares if I learned the stuff.

I’m screwed and upset and like in this class, cheating students get the same or even better grades than I do. I’m tired of this and I cannot do anything because I don’t have prove and if I do the professor will penalize everyone giving very difficult exams and everyone will hate me. The only option is live up with it or cheat.

It is insane, that the one who actually studies and knows what he’s doing doesn’t get an A while another student who brags how he cheated still has a change of getting an A.

This has gotten me very depressed. If I had an A I really would not care if the other students cheated or not but I’m tired of this. To top it all there are students who see me studying hard and like to underestimate my intelligence and make fun of me. Then if I work hard and other students try to underestimate my intelligence and a B affects me academically, why would I bother to keep working hard. After all what’s the point, what matters is the grade because it looks neat in the transcript.

The only thing that matters for positioning me in my department and to get scholarships, into graduate school is the grade. Whether I learned or not and my ethics don’t show up on paper. They see a B in that class and they will think that I did terrible when it is not true.

This is what has me frustrated and depressed.

What should I do? How do I get over it?

I’m a third year engineering student and since my actual home is close to the campus I live with my parents. Since I have a little brother, he likes to have the TV very loud and there is always a fuss at home. Since I cannot concentrate I stay at the university to study. Students see me and they are very curious of what I’m doing.

But the thing is that there are some students that apparently don’t like me and take any chance they have to underestimate my intelligence. They say comments like “he doesn’t know anything”. The other day someone said that I must have all A’s and some student said that I didn’t. I mean that is not true. I have tried to get all A’s but it’s not that easy. I have gotten a few B’s even if I worked hard.

But the thing is that I really don’t have many friends and I really don’t speak much with students of my department. I don’t get it why they do that. I don’t brag or anything like that. I just study a lot to get good grades.

I don’t cheat like a lot of students in my department do whenever they have a chance. Some students even take pictures of exams and then they share with other students.

Therefore, they study from that and they have a direct idea how the exam will be and in some cases they have even the same problems with different numbers. I mean, not all students have access to those exams and therefore those students can get better grades studying less.

It’s like a recent exam that I took. I got a 92 because I made some mechanical mistakes but other students who cheated, studied by the last minute and exchanged answers during exam and didn’t know exactly what they were doing, got the same or even a better grade than I did.

This is another case that they could talk about, because the students who cheated look like geniuses without practicing at all. Now because of this I lost my chance of getting an A in that class while other students who cheated might still make it.

I feel really bad when they speak of me like that and try to underestimate me. I don’t expect them to like me or anything but at least if they are going to say anything bad they shouldn’t do it in front of me because I get depressed.

I don’t know if I ever will be an exchange student, but it seems really interesting and I’d want to go from WA state to UK or Australia! I don’t want it to be an entire year though:( I only have sophomore, junior, and senior year left and it would be hard to miss a whole year. That’s why I feel like a month or two, or maybe three months at the most would be great! Id really ony go if it were less than a semester. But is it possible?

Oh and what’s the difference between summer exchange student and school year? And why summer???

Doyou have to have a high gpa? I have a 3.833 right now because I got one B+. but I have a 4.0 this semester (2nd semester freshman year), and schools almost out.

And what’s it like to be an exchange student? It’s really just Goethe cultural change benefits right? Is it fun? Do you have to pay a ton of money?

Sorry this is so long! Basically: is it possible to be an exchange student for 3 months at the MOST (preferably only 2), what’s the difference between school and summer exchange, and is it worth it and fun and beneficial?

I was thinking of going to Australia for a student exchange program, but I would like to to go somewhere that does not have a lot of deaths due to insect. I was hoping to go to Gold Coast it has always fascinated me, but is it a good place to live for someone from Canada?
