Student Exchange Programs

I am very interested in being apart of the foreign exchange program. I went on sites and it was just for families who wanted to host or for other students to visit America. I havnt talked to my mom about it , i just want to make sure that it is a real thing first. However , i would only be interested if i were to be going anywhere in Europe.Do you have and suggestions ? Experiences ?
